Predictors of Renal Function Improvement After Partial Nephrectomy

By Jonathan Afari, MD - Last Updated: April 24, 2024

Jonathan Afari, MD, of the University of California, San Diego, elaborates on the importance of identifying factors contributing to renal function improvement post-partial nephrectomy.

Partial nephrectomy is considered a viable management strategy for patients with localized renal masses. A proportion of patients experience renal function improvement post-partial nephrectomy.

To identify and characterize factors contributing to this phenomenon, Dr. Afari and colleagues conducted a retrospective, multicenter analysis of 3845 patients who underwent open or minimally invasive partial nephrectomy for renal neoplasms.

In this video, he details some of the factors he identified in his research, which was presented at the 2024 European Association of Urology Congress.
